The women’s marathon finish was superb. The ability to sprint like that after 26 miles amazes me (the ability to sprint like that after a decent warm up run is beyond my comprehension to be honest!)

Men’s was probably better.

Disappointment in the 1500. Kerr got in a crap position from the start and then seemed to get injured and limped home.
Wightman hit the front about 200m out and looked good for gold but got pipped on the line by a fast finisher.

I think Kerr knew he was carrying an injury.
He didn’t look good. He should have stopped and not carried on.
Wightman is coming back from
Injury himself. He gave it everything and didn’t die wondering.

GB manage the worst medal tally for 20 years.
Amy Hunt the only athlete to come close to producing a standout performance, amid a lot of mediocre ones.

However, there were some incredible new PBs on the track by individuals from other nations.
“Unbelievable” as Sean Kelly would say.

It really was poor.
Especially in the field events. We don’t seem to have anyone close to being a good jumper or thrower.

I'm very out of the loop with athletics currently, but my initial thought was that they're on a cycle aiming at next year's Olympics?

Anything in that, or am I way wide of the mark?

Surprise surprise, they still made it into the final somehow, so pleased Botswana beat them.

Yeah, it was a farce. If another team gets DQd just have an empty lane, don’t give a second chance to a team that has messed up their original chance

We are now 13 years since the 2012 olympics.
the aspiring 10 year olds at the time are 23 now. This should be a golden age of athletics, but something has gone very wrong.
My worry is that other sports are hoover up athletic talent. Especially football, which has huge financial clout. It takes on far too many young apprentices, who inevitably get chewed up and spat out. And are disillusioned with sport.
