Right, it's about time this thread was resurrected as only a week and a half to go. I am off up north this weekend visiting outlaws and on the Sunday doing another forum ride. I was wondering how many miles have been clocked up by everyone since 1st Jan?
PS do you think Simon is still talking to me?

400 miles + for January.

If anyone has an inside line to any of the following gods [wind, ice, snow] please start making the necessary sacrifices. Unless this high pressure system start to shift at the end of the week, [and currently it is sitting over half the earth!] it is going to be a tad cold, but dry.

I'm watching the weather gods with interest too, the only forecast I have for Coventry is for sub zero conditions, if thats the case the Cotswold Reliability Trial will be called of.

I hope the weather improves so you can have an enjoyable, SAFE ride!

That's good going Dave - you'll be flying by the summer! (Or knackered ...)

So, what you are saying is that you can't rely on the Reliability Trial ...?

We have had a reasonable January, both of us are on well over 500 miles, in my case all on fixed. I have missed riding on 8 days in the month and Helen has put in some hard turbo miles on those days when I have been sat on my backside.
On the plus side regarding the weather there is less humidity so the roads are dry and should be free from ice. Well done Dave, that is good going considering a lot of our miles are training, or should I say Helen's are and I feel obliged to tag along.
Please don't take this as a threat Colin, but if you don't do this ride again soon I will make you Helen's pace man up the Cat & Fiddle ^_^

Just logged the January miles on the computer, 452, similar to last year but well up on 2009, most of them have been commuting but I've got 3 Sunday rides in. I've also been using the turbo twice a week through December and January, though the effort was slightly spoilt because my heart monitor went faulty, I had 2 or three sessions where I couldn't get the heart rate up where I wanted it, despite being strong and going well on the road, it turned out the heart monitor was under reading and freezing, I took it back, got my money back and brought a different make, as Colin said "I'll either be knackered or I'll be flying in the summer". As an aside, if my spell checker can't spell what chance have I got? Its flagged up several words in this as misspelt when I've spelt them correctly.

I assume that you mean my Waddington ride, not your Rutland one!

If so, would the 17th or 18th March suit you? I'm trying to spread my 100 km rides out and I have the mini-NWP a month before and SITD a month after. If you can be free that weekend, I'll pencil it in to my diary.

I don't mind pacing Helen down the Cat & Fiddle! I was overtaking riders on some of the downhills on Sunday, me freewheeling, them pedalling. (Lard power!)

It looks like I won't make a Spring Rutland ride. I will be coming down for a weekend in March but I'm fully booked with family gatherings then so I won't be able to get any cycling in.

I'll see about coming down again in May or June and will pick a weekend to coincide with one of your rides.

I used a secondhand HRM for a while in the early 2000s, a time when I was a shadow of my current self (sub-12 stone!) and was pretty fit. Over the months, I watched my resting heart rate slowly drop from 50+ bpm to 40 bpm but there it got stuck. No matter what I did, it was 40 bpm every morning. I couldn't figure out why it was never 41 or maybe even 39 - just 40! In the end I did an online search for a copy of the HRM manual and it stated that the minimum heart rate that the device would display was 40 bpm! I bought myself a new one and discovered that my resting heart rate was actually 33-35 bpm ...

I used to lie in bed when it was quiet and I could lie a certain way and hear my own pulse. It was pretty odd listening to ... ba-bump (Mississippi Mississippi) ba-bump (Mississippi Mississippi) ba-bump (Mississippi Mississippi) ba-bump! (These days it is more like ba-bump (Missi) ba-bump (Missi) ba-bump (Missi) ba-bump - more like 70 bpm.)

Evan when I was young and fit I never got my resting heart rate below 50, these days its around 55-60. A cycling mate of mine had a fall at the beginning of December and broke his hip, they picked him up and took him to hospital where they wired him up to assorted monitors, within a couple of minutes alarms were going off everywhere, he has a normal resting heart rate around the mid 40's and evan in hospital with a bust hip it was still down in the high 40's, which was enough to set the machines of.

At the moment we are potentially only free on 4th, 25th March or April Fool's Day.
Looks like my ride is going the same way as yours with the weather forecast, in fact as of now the weather pattern looks identical. I dare not cancel it cos I have two women to satisfy who are coming on the ride and neither are quitters.
Know what you mean about heart rates, 3 years ago I had an ECG and they said I had Brachycardia which actually only means a resting heart rate of less than 60bpm and mine was a lot less than that.

Right, well Sunday the 25th March would suit me! I'll pencil it in, and start a thread about it in March, but I'll mention it now in last Sunday's thread so anybody following that can also be forewarned. For any Saturdays-only riders reading, I'll also arrange a ride for Saturday 25th February (probably to somewhere different).

That reminds me - I'd read about doctors and nurses getting very worried by low heart rates after accidents and I meant to get a medical bracelet engraved with my resting heart rate as well as contact details. The last thing I want if I fall off my bike and am knocked out is someone zapping my heart or sticking adrenaline into me, or whatever it is that they do when they think your heart is packing up!

Sorry I am out for sunday Reoccurring chest problems A/biotics and steroids just prescribed
Have fun maybe later on in the year we will get to meet and ride

I did a night ride at Fineshade woods last night and it was minus 2 degrees - I think the adrenaline of the challenging terrain kept me warm! So am all all ready for the cold weather on Sunday - heated gloves are helping as well :-)

Keep a tight grip on those gloves, I know a certain someone who might like those! Seriously though, is it now glove weather? Still in my fingerless mitts. Watching the weather carefully, looking interesting. Anybody heard anything yet from cycleruk?

What time are we likely to finish as my plans have altered and my Vike training is now on Sunday too. Still Hoping to attend if we finish early enough!
Although my legs are telling me to rest after Januarys mammoth (for me) mileage PB.
Had a word with Thor... Good news, no Thunder on Sunday!

Given the uncertainty of the weather forecast, can I suggest a start time to be decided tomorrow? It may be that we are all going to be carrying snow shovels, snow is fine, ice is not. From many, many previous outings with others in "challenging" weather, they have always actually proved to be the most rewarding rides, ones you remember and chat about for years to come.
To answer your question, if all went well we would be back by 2pm but you know how cycling works.
