None really unless you need more bottles or don’t have space on the frame (eg a small frame). I guess mountain biking they might get less covered in cr@p than one low down in the frame, but that’s why Mtbers use a Camelbak.
Not sure I’ve ever seen one on a bike myself

Some old frames don't have bottle cage mounts :okay: On my single speed (old raleigh frame) there was none, so I fit a bracket on the saddle rails that fits 2 bottle cages, works well for me. On another old farmed bike I've used a strap on bottle cage, which is ok, but not as neat as the saddle mounted ones

Some of them can eject the bottles on bumps because they are cantilevered a long way out and vibration is considerable. The one that works best is a plastic one I got from Halfords for 50p years ago.

They exist so that those who can't, or have a good reason not to, use standard bottle cages can still take a drink on the move
