Hi folks

My right leg is shorter than my left leg because of a ski accident; I use shims on my cleats on the shorter leg which helps a bit. Because of the shortness in the leg, I have to find what I call my "sweet spot" in terms of saddle height. Is there such a thing I can buy like a marker (I don't necessarily mean a pen marker) or something that I can use whereby I can "mark" the saddle height?

Thanks in advance

black* insulation tape?

that's what I use if I'm taking saddles off to transport the bikes in the car.

*other colours are available.

I usually use black electrical tape. My left leg is 0.75cm shorter than my right. It took 64 years to get this diagnosed!!

A new and good cycling friend is a podiatrist specialising in skeletal and posture issues. She noticed I pronate on the bike. After an examination she provided me with the appropriate heel raiser. Over night the discomfort I lived with in my left hip and knee disappeared. I had to alter, to improve, my bike position which helped me ride better.

For years I had accepted an unnecessary compromise. Can I suggest you at least consider a heel raiser and perhaps visit a podiatrist. I don't think a sweet spot compromise is the solution. It wasn't for me.

How much shorter? Is it enough to consider different length cranks on the bike, in the days before clipless pedals I rode with someone who used different crank lengths on his bike.

I measure this distance with a steel rule. If you're marking a reference whilst you experiment with a different setting, you can go back down to a tape mark from a higher position, but you can't go lower then come back up again.

I use black tape too, if I remember. Also, I have the saddle height, reach, triangulation and all the other dimensions written down.
