IIRC all 4 main roads from the SE into London now have roadworks or closures: Creek Road shut in Greenwich; A2 closed at Deptford; A20 roadworks on the way into Lee Green and A21 has roadworks in Lewisham. I know that Deptford isn't anyone's fault (well not anyone that is responsible for the roads anyway) and Creek Road is apparently a gas leak caused by the water board but to put roadworks on the A20 and A21 at the same time is poor planning!

This morning the traffic cars were queueing half way up the hill in Greenwich Park. I've never seen that before.

On the bike it was plain sailing.

Speculation on SE23.COM is that you can forget about the South Circular at Forest Hill till Monday ... at least the area got their water supply back this morning but there is a lot of clearing up to be done.

The real issue is that with so many north/south railway lines crossing the arterial roads - their are few alternative crossing points when we get this number of outages. Here in Sydenham it feels like the whole of South East London is coming our way.

I thought a toll house on the railway bridge would be a nice calming and lucrative idea. If it works in College Road it would certainly have an impact here. But I dream on ...

The other issue which has been high lighted on here before is the shortage of river crossings east of Tower Bridge, which means traffic is either funnelled into a small corridor of main roads or forced to take the blackwall tunnel.

Do you think if we say "Blackwall Tunnel" 3 times it will close? Now that would be funny, imagine how bad the chaos would get if Blackwall closed until say next Friday!!!

Should you try reporting this?

(seems to me concurrent roadworks is the most pervasive problem with London road maintenance)

And stationary all the way between Greenwich and the Woolwich flyover. Blackwall stacked back at least as far as Falconwood.
The Olympics is gonna be fun ....
But at least the Cyclists at the Velodrome, the Kyakas at the water centre and the Equestrians at Greewich will have their own traffic beating transport.

I think the Olympics will be a lot of fun. I keep hearing quotes on TV that people are confident that it will be ok however I feel this means that the people in charge don't actually understand how London traffic operates. It may be possible, on a very good day, during the Olympics for everything to go well, however it only takes one crash or burst water main to impact on traffic miles away, an obvious example being the Blackwall Tunnel. Should anything stop traffic travelling through the BT, the impact can be seen as far away as Elephant and Castle within an hour or so.

I just took a look at the chaos on the A2 at Deptford Bridge. There's one man, suspended in a cage from a giant crane, removing bricks one by one from the front of a building. I suspect this might take some time. A CSO told me that it could be closed all weekend as the abutting buildings may not be stable.

It's amazing how much an apparently small glitch in the traffic flow impacts.

The other day I swept past hundreds of snarled up cars bumper to bumper from the top of Dnmark Hill to Camberwell Green and then again down Camberwell New Rd until about halfway I came across a broken down bus in the bus lane. Other buses were having to move into the regular lane to get past. It was this causing the one mile-plus tailback.
