Saving the carpet

The carpet downstairs is old but serviceable until Mrs ck dripped loads of gloss paint when she tried to paint the door and ruined it.
Borrowed the father in law's Vax today with the intention of giving the dining area a clean which came up ok so I decided to keep that one but the paint was not coming out so as a last resort I bought some paint stripper as I thought if it bleached the carpet I was not losing anything.
I set to it scrubbing the stripper in with a scraper and I was surprised that it was loosening the paint so kept going untill I had a smear of mushy stuff which I scraped off then used pre spot spray followed by a good vax, after 3-4 goes with more stripper and Vax it actually got all the paint off !!
The carpet is now good enough to last awhile so I can just get the bedrooms and stairs done which are past the point of saving.
In other news I have overpaid on the water meter so they have reduced my payments which can go towards paying for the carpets I need.

Many years ago, a then friend worked for a firm that produced wax products. He told me that many carpets used a wax based product to hold the pile. Using solvents can lead to the pile becoming loose and having bare patches on the carpet.

No carpets in our house except hall stairs and landings, the rest is a mixture of wooden floors and tiles, far more practical.

I planned to keep the carpets in my first house for a while to save a bit money. Until I was bitten by fleas when decorating prior to moving in. The council came out to fumigate the place and the carpets went to the tip.

When I moved last year my friend removed the carpets as part of the work he did for me. He got some sort of skin infection which was most likely from the carpets.

Lucky you having decent enough carpets to keep for a while.

too noisy for us especially as the 3rd bedroom is a loft conversion and currently has bare boards and i cam hear mini ck 2 clumping about and with me on shifts .
