Saying Hello When Passing / Ettiquette

I always say hello when passing/overtaking another cyclist but at my speed that's not very often.

Also It cheers my morning commute up if I meet another cyclist so early in the morning cycling in the opposite direction, it's a very lonely, scary road. I just have to say hello and wave.

If I ever pass another cyclist while riding my bike I'll probably gasp something like "orrite..... puff pant..... old chap". Then I'll slow down to my normal tectonic plate speed and let them pass me.

I think I've passed 1 other cyclist ever and it isn't likely to happen again anytime soon.

This is the way it works:
You set off all chirpy and glad to be out and about you then espy a fellow cyclist - you wave and say Hi!
He ignores you completely.
You swear a bit and then see another cyclist coming so you grit your teeth and stare at your stem in revenge
The other cyclist waves and says Hi!
This twoing and froeing goes on for a while until one day you say Hi! and the other guy breaks into an obscene type of interpretive dance that is seared into your brain for ever.
You vow never to make eye contact with another cyclist.
Save time - make the vow today.
