What annoys me is the 'pressure'

Imagine being the parent who doesn't want to be fleeced by a "Graduation" for the three year old

Kids having fun, people spending money. Both sure things to get the forum fizzing.

Not even sure America had been invented when I left school.

My sons graduation from nursery involved them making a mortar board out of black paper and learning words to a goodbye song. Perfect for my budget.

So was I, and they hadn't yet imported them from the USA anyway.

Even if my family had not been too poor to splash out on that kind of thing, and proms had been a feature of school life in those days, I simply wouldn't have gone!
Ditto!!

Oh lordy - you lot are just kids.

Didn't have dances/proms/balls whatever when I left school. Just five years later, in my first teaching job - yup, the school tried a "Leavers' Ball". Staff on duty (yup, on duty!) were issued a 6 inch ruler, and instructed that NO dancing couples were EVER to be so close that said 6 inch ruler could not be passed between them.

But the Head forgot to stipulate which way we had to be able to slip said 6 inch ruler between couples.  :shy: :shy: :shy:
