Keep the 500 it's what they were made for ? Commuter bikes bombproof engines. I can't see a 300 scooter being any more economical than your Honda. And I'd rather be doing the odd day trip on a motorway on anything other than a scooter. I'd save the hassle and keep what you've got but that's just my opinion.
New job, no motorway commute, will cycle whenever I can but need some transport to get me out on visits and through the Bristol gridlock when I need to go to the city.

So I'm selling my CB500X as I don't need what it provides, and am going back to a scooter.

I don't want a 125 as I still want to be able to do occasional trips up to Birmingham. I've had a 300cc scoot before and this gives the best balance of performance against economy the I need.

Head says Honda SH300. It's reliable, proven, and according to the reviews an impressive surprise to anti-scooter bikers when they try it. I've managed to batter down a decent deal with a couple of dealers.

But then, Vespa did an anniversary edition of their 300GTS last year. There are still some around unsold, and heart says go for it. A local Piaggio dealer has one in for £1200 less than the current Euro 4 300GTS.

What do you reckon?
Silver Wings are dirt cheap. Honda finish and reliability, and they're much better if you ever had to undertake a longer journey. Looking at the ads I'm tempted myself - its only the fear of Mrs D's wrath if I bring home another toy that stops me

We are a Piaggo dealer and the GTS 300 is an excellent machine, very well finished.

Nothing wrong with the Honda SH300 but not a patch on the GTS imho.
Thanks Keith. Any significant differences between the anniversary model and 2017 models (apart from Euro 4)? And what are the service intervals?
The eninge in the Euro 4 is different and it has stop/ start technology iirc.

Both are good solid engines, they moved the servicing out to every 6000 miles so we use Motul 300v fully synthetic oil.

Euro4 has ABS and ASR (anti skid regulation/ basically traction control for wet roads), earlier bike only has ABS by memory.
