... Anyway, I have a new dream job. Shunter and / or wheeltapper. I have no real idea what those jobs entail, but they seem to have a nice social life.

A 'wheeltapper' is just that, they hit all the solid Iron wheels with a hammer and if the wheel rings true they're OK but a dull 'clonk' means the wheel is cracked and needs replacing

Would liked to have been a pilot, aircraft not river. Next door neighbour was a commercial pilot and now gives lessons.Hmmm, no too expensive.
I think he started his flying with crab-air.

Just got the standard "Sorry..." letter
I later found out that a lot went to retired/left the services Armed Forces/Police (@ 50)

With hindsight, they probably have more vehicular incident experience than me

In any case, you don't want to be a Womble - no one in the services likes them, and they have a reputation for being a bit of a liability and needing nursemaiding on occasion.

I was only jesting and riffing on the old TV series, but I know it must have been a hard job. Anything manual in those days was.

Would you prefer my real dream job? It's incredibly boring.

I’ve always fancied having a business selling classic cars, motorcycles and bikes in a lovely old rural barn.

I always went and did what I wanted to do. When I had enough of that, I moved on to something else.

However. I would like to open a B&B in a mountain village in Italy, where endurance cyclists would come and train. Nothing flash or fancy. But homely and warm with good training routes in great scenery. Homemade bread and stews along with a few chickens in the garden.

I would use it as a base from September to May and then come back to Denmark for the summer.

It may never happen. But its nice to dream.

A few years ago, I watched the boom boat skippers bullying logs into position to form giant rafts in Vancouver Island. That looks like a fun job.

I always fancied being a loadmaster on Search & Rescue helicopters. I very nearly remustered a couple of times during my RAF career, but promotions/postings/personal circumstances seemed to get in the way.

I regret not doing it now, I imagine there’s a lot of job satisfaction to be had pulling people off sinking ships and saving lives on a daily basis.

I always saw it a job with a lot of job-satisfaction. Slotting the evil of this world, triggering general elections and coups d'etat, and for fun deading the bastards I simply don't like.
