I think that 1970s cinema is the best decade for films. Some disagree, shockingly.

I cite the following as evidence -

The first 2 Godfather movies
Chinatown
The Conversation
The two French Connection movies
Taxi Driver
The Long Good Friday.

What do you think? Are the 1970s the best decade for films?

And for music, just a great time, however the 90’s were pretty good for films.

Rose coloured specks, there was some good films made during the seventies but there was also a huge amount of total dross made as well.

I'm not that old. I wasn't born until halfway through that decade. ^_^

These films I picked up on much much later on from their release dates.

What do you know of New Hollywood? Briefly put it was a period of filmmaking around this considered one cinema's golden ages with Directors getting unprecedented control (and some directing the fils you listed). But it was not without risk - The French Connection famously filmed the car chase on live streets, could have gone very wrong.

Unfortunately this level of freedom couldn't last and Heavens Gate isoften cited as the film that brought it down.

Lots of info here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Hollywood.

Ps I think the 1980s beat it :okay:

The three man-with-no name Eastwood films were from the 60s, as were the bulk of the best war films.

While I can see where Cookieminster is coming from I'd respectfully disagree.

Von Ryan's Express, complete cheese but I love it, and Where Eagles Dare, what more can you say?

Although the seventies gave use Michael Caine as a good German in The Eagle has Landed.
