Got home from work last night to be greeted by my neighbour, who came rushing out to tell me 3 young lads had just come running out my garden with 2 bikes, and a handful of other things (which turn out to be a jetwash, and a hedgetrimmer!). Shed broken into at 6pm!

Insurance are on the case, and police had been and gone with the hour of it being reported.

Keep your eyes on your bikes this time of year people, scumbags are on the loose!

Sad to hear that, but reading the thread title I was looking forward to finding out how someone had nicked your actual shed.

I keep my bikes in the house and the pressure washer is in a cupboard in the kitchen , shed and garage left open but some idiot still tried to break into the garage via the back door.
Hope you get your bikes back .

What bikes are they? Just down the road from me.

I refuse to put my bike in the workshop even though it's brick and mortar. It currently lives in my utility room and I think it's a bit safer there. I was looking after my parents house a couple of years back and they have a metal shed at the end of the garden. The doors are always slightly ajar for the cats but I went out one night and saw they were wide open. I turned on the floodlights and two oiks bailed out of the shed and over the fence. It was ridiculous.

I hope your insurance etc is all OK.

Cheers guys - mine is a specialilzed hardrock sport 29er, and the wifes is only a Decathlon Btwin number, the road bikes are kept in the house.

Insurance have been fine so far, Wheelies are dealing with the replacements, and i have just picked the replacements.

Glad your insurance are being ok, sometimes they can be " not covered in a shed ", mate at work had his nicked and they played him around .

Bad luck on the theft. Not something I worry about too much as the bikes live in an internal storeroom/workshop/bikeshed but as I have numerous bikes I am sure people in the surrounding area will have me marked as 'the bike guy'. I try to be discreet about it and live on a quiet cul-de-sac but it wouldn't surprise me if I ever did get targeted for the bikes

Last night was unusual because I lay in bed listening to noises about the house. At first I thought maybe one of the kids was up but I checked and they were both snoring. I continued listening and convinced myself it was either a dripping shower or the house cooling down. It obviously crossed my mind that someone might be trying to get into the bikes through the side door!
It's a shame we have to worry about people stealing our hard earned belongings. At least mine are indoors but if I ever catch anyone trying to steal them then they will be an intruder inside my house and I will do whatever it takes to defend myself, my family and my belongings. It would be an unfortunate turn of affairs if they required medical assistance to help them leave!
Hope you get sorted quickly. I am surprised that your insurance aren't giving it a few days to see if they are recovered before offering replacements.

Yes i was quite suprised at the quick turn-around, i am currently at the point where they have given me the figure to shop with, and i am calling them to let them know my choices in an hour or so, but as to how quickly the rest happens, we will see.

I wonder if it shows how little chances these things have of been recovered now?

Some years ago we had our shed broken into and 05.30 and................this is absolutely true...............I saw the 3 thieves and recognised one of them as our window cleaner. I phoned the police who arrived at 05.50 (so far so good).
I told them who it was (and apparently he was a known thief to them) and that if they went to his house immediately they would get him and my gear back. They said (and this is the point) ..............
"sorry mate, our shift finishes in 10 minutes. You will have to wait for the next shift!!!!!
Next shift turned up an hour later and they told me................
"not worth going now, the gear will have been moved on by now as he steals to order".
I never got the gear back although all 3 went down for it.
I see him in town occasionally (not for a while)............he is a smack head and sits there begging.

a few days ago, our Jack Russel started barking at approx 2am in the morning (she has different types/pitches of barking, and the pitch that she was barking with was the same when a visitor or the postman enters our property)

The dog sleeps in my son's room which is next to the driveway. I woke up, came downstairs and checked the garden but never saw anything

it happenened again an hr later .... same story, I never saw anyone or anything

however, when it was light, there were 2 sets of footprints on the wet grass leading to our garden shed. There are 2 bikes in the shed (my daughters dutch bike and my wife's Amaco tricycle) ...

my bikes stay in the house, and my son's bike is in his room. There have been a few shed break ins over the past few months and it seems that items such as lawnmowers and gardening tools are in demand

but even worse ..... around the corner from me is a farm and some people keep their horses there.... it runs alongside the start of the cyclepath that runs from Great Shelford to Addenbrooks Cambridge. There are signs along the fence today appealing for witnesses/information as 3 horses were killed. I'm shocked

That is shocking by the police, not surprised though.

If the same situation happened to me, I would literally batter the thief each time I saw him.
