Believe me, I won't be taking any more photos, It created quite an ugly scene when I took that picture , I found myself surrounded by about 10 angry taxi drivers who were all quite aggressive and threatening and being egged on by about another 20 others hanging out of their taxi windows giving suggestions of how I (a woman on my own) should be dealt with.

I understand that you were very intimidated by this but the fact it drew this reaction means that the Taxi drivers were scared by your actions! My suggestion would be to buy or borrow a high definition action camera, this way you don't have to stop & take a photo so you're far less likely to be subjected to this type of intimidation.

That's not a parknig issue. The taxi drivers are parking/stopping in the cycle lane and are obstructing the highway/pavement - a police matter. The small sign at the far end next to the parked taxi is a keep left sign so they have also contravened whatever part of the Road Traffic Act that comes under.

Go back to the police station and insist that one of Sheffield's finest cycling bobbies pays a visit to the area - preferably in plain clothes so that when he's abused he can nick the lot of tehm and chuck in a Section 5.

Unfortunately not- Portsmouth is the same, parking is decriminalised and the responsibility of the Council. however in the case of obstruction then the Police ARE responsible

A few years ago I spent about threes months copying letters from the Police to the Council and vice-versa then took the whole pack to the Councl's Road Safety Committee who eventually sores the matter. in this case it is clearly the Police as these vehicles are driving the wrong way down a one way system so make that the complaint

Contact police at senior officer level. It's definitley a 999 situation if they are threatening. Try again: with back-up as suggested. Ask DWP to attend at the same time. Then see how many taxi drivers stick around There's always an alternative strategy. BTW, I worked in Sheffield town hall many years ago. There was some mileage for my boss in checking out claims by the "unwaged" against newspaper reports of taxi drivers of the same name and address being nicked for traffic offences. Crooks and swindlers.....

Bring a video camera next time Sara. See how aggressive they are when they know they are being filmed.

It is the same here ... parking on double yellow - call the council, on the pavement, or causing an obstruction call the police, on a dropped curb call the police.

I agree though I think you could take turns in calling both.....

Is the fine the same? and if so are the police or council better at issuing fines.... theoretically I would guess at the council being better as they would keep the money in their coffers and their staff aren't needed to do other jobs as well. Plus maybe the council would then be motivated to do something about a better waiting area for them.

Here's the Googlemaps street view. Cabs parked all over the pavement/yellow lines. Cycle contraflow is (on this occasion) clear
