You can't have a contraflow cycle lane set against a no entry sign without an island. This is because you aren't allowed to have a 'except cyclists' written below the no entry sign. Until the law's changed (perhaps very soon) it's something that costs contraflow implementation a great deal of money.

Look what I came across today, which reminded me of this thread... A no entry sign with an "except cyclists" sign below it.

What, illegal parking on double yellows and the pavement is down to the council??? Fob off, IMO.

Quite possibly true. Parking enforcement was taken over by our local council here in Southend too. Any complaints, photos etc. have to go to the council.

At a recent community meeting, a PCSO explained that parking enforcement was taken over by the council. However, if someone is causing an obstruction, then this is a police matter.

I'm not sure if that helps, as this would seem both!

I had months getting the 'who's resposnsibility is it to enforce' argument from the local council and plod, when I was complaining about parking outside our local school.
Then one day I rang both of them again, asking if they could get their act together as a 2 year old had just been hospitalised.

We then had police and 'streetpride' turning up on a near daily basis, mornings and afternoons, for almost 3 weeks.....

Amazing how getting a child knocked over seems the best way to get action ... we had a similar case at our school where we were reporting cars parking on the pavements ... not much done until after an incident ... now they police are handing out fines. Only thing is I'm not sure whether it will just be a short term measure before we go back to "normality".

You should have gone to the local paper with that one.

I hope the kid was okay,, but if you've been complaining about something being wrong , BEFORE an incident, then surely this info needs to be passed to the family of the kid?

if they knew and did nothing, then responsibilty surely is greater ?

I got a parking ticket for parking on a very poorly signed Taxi Rank in Sheff (dual use parking meter bay and taxi rank)

Looks like Sheff City Council has double standards.

May pop down there tomorrow with my video camera.

Let's see how the b*stards deal with a 6ft 1 inch 13.5 stone Ex Policeman and Law Graduate

I'd love to mix it up with the council.

The irony was that it was one of the worst parking offenders whose kid got knocked down. Whilst she was getting one kid out of the car, this one wandered off...... She was parked half on the pavement, in the mouth of a junction – its nearly opposite the school entrance, that close that the ‘zig zags’ start about 5ft from where the back of her car (big 4x4) was parked.

The schools catchment area is less than a one mile radius! In the following days I saw several instances of people arguing with the enforcement officers. Text message warnings were flying back and forth to say when officers were attending.

I said rather than spend those extra minutes trying to find an illegal space on the schools doorstep it’d be quicker to just park legally 100 yards further away. I was told by one mother she didn’t pass her test to park right up the road.....

I responded by saying IF she passed her test she must have read the highway code – she knew what the rules on parking were – and they’re not just for getting through the test.

Hope you reported that to TNT.

Gambatte: that sounds horiffic. They all live less than a mile away and have to drive in? After one of their children gets seriously because of their bad parking they collude together to avoid getting in trouble for bad parking? Someone aught to trash their cars.
