I read that Shimano has just submitted a patent for cleats that automatically move based on power and other metrics.

The important part for me is...
“The target position [of the cleat] can be adjusted based on a formula such as the lateral target position is adjusted 2mm for each increase or decrease of 20W of pedalling input power once the forward speed is over 20km/h and the pedalling (sic) input power is greater than 200 W,” says Shimano.
So for me, they're stationary cleats.
