I might be wrong on this but are not trainers that are designed for running built for landing the front of your foot first these days. Where as when you walk you heel strike.
You might be better with some walking/ approach shoes.

Some of the training shoes I see have soles that protrude at the back of the heel, which seems to me like they've been deliberately designed to aggravate heel strike:

I really dont know, the 1st part sounds right but in my running days it was heel first the roll onto towards the front.

These most runners I see seem to land on the ball of their foot. I agree in my day too it was heel first.

I was always heal first until I started to suffer with my knees. I then went to toes for a while but it did`nt seem natural (to me anyway). I had a lay off and concentrated on cycling. When I then tried to run again, I no longer could run. It seems daft but it is as if the brain is confused. Cycling it has to be.

I find when I’m crossing the road and suddenly need to break in to a run to avoid traffic I really have to think about it in order to get going.
