It’s important though. I’ve got some very dirty boots that could use a polish

Never buy newspapers myself either, they are free if you shop at Waitrose.

Hosepipe and a brush is the current chosen method given the time of year.

I've always wiped off any excess dirt with a wet sponge, wait a few minutes for them to dry off, then brush polish. Otherwise if they're not too bad just a good brush polish will do. Any gouges or marks in the leather I'll use a wet duster to layer polish in to the damage.

Occasionally instead of brushes I'll use a wet yellow duster to apply a better layer of polish, like the bulling style used in the military.

I had no idea people used newspaper!

I used to love getting a good shine on my black leather boots or shoes . Spit and cotton wool woked best .Now I use this ....

Most of my shoes/boots are Suede, Fabric or Nubuck

I find that if I wear them in bed overnight then by next morning they look quite good.
