Errrr.....
I want to swap out the rear cassette on my roadie as the current 12/25 combo with a 39 small chainring means I'm grinding up Portsdown Hill instead of spinning. Campag cassettes seem to come in 13/26 or 13/29 - the 26 won't give me much more gear so I'm thinking I need the 13/29, but does anyone know if my Veloce short cage rear mech will handle that size rear cog?

A short cage mech will handle the same size cogs as a long cage mech.
What a longer cage gets you is a bigger range of gears. You may find that you can't use small/smallish without the chain running slack or dragging against the top jockey wheel, not that using small/small is a good idea anyway.

erm will some of the above is right...

a short cage with sumin like a 32 cassette will mean the top jockey wheel will rub the cassette, but a 29 should be fine
