You are the first person to have the ham fisted baggage handlers at an airport to of done a rear mech or other component in when the bike rattles off onto the conveyor belt, then onto a trolley and finally into the hold of the plane.

If I am mistaken and the RD is not bent, the LBS will be checking it tomorrow to get an expert opinion. The new RD then can be kept or returned. If I am not mistaken then I can get it fixed in time to do the tour. Just attempting to compensate for my lack of knowledge of bike mechanics.

Have taken off the wheel and checked the RD. Looks fairly bent with the jockey wheels at different angles. The hanger is a specialist one so having that delivered too.

They dented my new £2,000 bike a couple of weeks after I bought it...

I bought an expensive bike box for my next flight. They chucked that out of the plane's hold and broke the corner of it! Fortunately, the bike was protected though. I made a reinforcement out of aluminium sheet and rebuilt the corner with that expoxied in as support. I had another 6 or 7 holidays without further damage.

I agree, I get Vinnie Jones to transport my bike for me.
