At the moment i want to have fun, too many people in 6th form are stressing too much about work and not relaxing and haveing enough fun.

Exactly. You should go and enjoy yourselves or pretty soon you'll get into the habit that every 'age' involves trying too hard for little real reward and no real enjoyment. It's not important.

Get good grades, then get a good uni place where I can study a course I like and keep up my hobbies - especially cycling (one of the reasons I am applying to Cardiff) and then have had a good time at Uni, with a good degree to join the Royal marines with, from there on, who knows!

And at what point does the fun come? Uni? Marines? Chill.

In fact, I have just replied to someone who potentially has the next 30 years of their lives planned even before leaving school...

Go have fun.

Well I tried the have fun approach and got shoot grades....as I didn't work either.

I do not spend 24/7 working like a sun deprived book worm, but I am working damn hard right now, and being ontop of work, without that feeling of worry that everything will come crashing down come exams is great. Turning on serious mode for a second, getting good, sound jobs will be difficult in the current economic climate, so doing well is an extra inscentive.

Been there done that with the laid back cool guy style, and ****ed up. Time to shift up a gear

Sorry but I have wanted to be in the marines since I was about 13... going to Uni is a choice I have only recently made as I want more life experience before joining up.
Also I'm not at school,
its college.

marines- running around shooting ragheads  that will be awesome fun

Yeh, fantastic. Not. High pressure, high risk of death.

And I work in a town with a Marine base and know how 'not fun' it is. And I work closely with the 'welfare' side of the Navy. It ain't fun.

So go have fun now, then maybe you'll be better prepared for the serious side.

So if you want to be in the Marines go and have fun for 4 years without the stress of Uni. Cos it sounds as if you'll just think you'll have to push yourself to get good grades. And that will involve little fun.

Sorry I could not resist this - maybe your aunties view of 'welfare' towards Marines might be different to mine ;)
