Should I go microwave free and buy an air fryer?

Air fryer wise I think I'll go for one of these Dave. I didn't spot them the day before. I went into Accrington Asda yesterday and saw many air fryers and microwaves. One air fryer was a mere 20 quid but only had a 2.5 litre capacity. My only requirement is that it has to be able to fit a decent size pizza in. You can buy a microwave at ASDA for about £34, which is ok for me.😉

Someone told me that you can't warm/heat such as beans, soup, stews up in an air fryer as the things you put the food on are like metal baskets, so they don't hold liquid. Is this true? I thought you'd be able to put such as beans in a metal container in and they'd be OK to warm up. 🤔

After all this, I can see myself buying a basic microwave that has one of those dials you turn for the time it's on for. I cannot fathom this digital stuff! They have such a microwave at Asda. I might go for that. No way can/will I sit down and read instructions on how to work something digital. I really don't have the patience!😒👎

Warming things like beans, soups and stews is what microwaves are for.
You could put them in a metal container in an air fryer but why would you? Slower and more energy used.

You can take the basket out and just use the pot, but as @Pblakeney says, that's what a microwave is for.

Well at least that clears it up. You can use air fryers to warm up, create 'sloppy' food. The extra energy used will most likely be minimal.😉

Of course - can't everyone????

Actually it has the on/off switch and 4 buttons
the buttons set it to switch off at 90 80 70 or 60 rather than the default of 100

I think it is for different varieties of posh drink
most of which don't need it

one if for Green Tea - my wife can deliver a 4 hours lecture on how Green Tea needs boiling water
give her a bit of notice and she will include Powerpoint slides!!!!

Green Tea is all I drink.......................Aldi 'Diplomat' brand 59p for 40 teabags and it is the most pleasant one I've found, worst one I tried was Twinings you'd have to be a masochist to drink that muck. :cuppa:

Can you make in an air fryer:
Porridge?
Scrambled egg?
Defrost a Tupperware with frozen pasta sauce in it?
Warm up a cup of tea?
Warm up a cup of coffee?
Warm up milk?
Make custard?
Heat up a Christmas pudding in less than 3 hours?

Think I'd stay with a Microwave thank you.

No one can make porridge in a microwave. You might get a bowl of hot oatiness, but it ain't porridge.

I have a 2 drawer which I am very happy with.
It takes Chicago Town pizzas no problem. 11 mins at 160°.....done.
Large pizzas......just cut it in half (I can't eat a large one anyway).

Just to complicate things even further, when our old microwave went wrong, we replaced it with a combination microwave with air fryer.
It’s the size of a normal microwave, but has a metal baking tray with a mesh basket on top that you use in air fryer mode.
There are warnings all over it not to use the metal parts in microwave mode.
It’s big enough for a decent sized pizza. I nuke baked potatoes in the microwave, then put them in the metal tray in air fryer mode. Works a treat.

I've never even seen a kettle that had temperature settings, never mind owned one.
