Yup have two kids...strange cos my outlook has changed completely in the last couple of years. I used to climb and never had any fear...a couple of years ago we had to renew my fascia boards and I couldn't be at the top of the ladder as kept thinking of my kids and was petrified!

Yep, I'm afraid it's more courageous to bow out when you've got dependents. Even an injury to the bread winner could end up being without a home.

Of course there's still plenty of situations where a dad's voice can help calm a situation, so we're not complete dead weights to society

Everyone gets scared and I probably wouldn't of waded in either so I wouldn't 'beat yourself up' about it!!

I think I would of cycled to a safe distance away and phoned the cops

i wouldnt feel guilty as most people can handle themselves, thing now days is most people will record/laugh/joke pull out a phone not to call police but to upload a video , ive only ever been in 2 positions where ive stepped in to help a stranger out, if someone is physically beating someone to near death then something needs to be done there and then, generally a really angry person is oblivious to there surroundings and a quick smack to the nose sorts that out , if its a one on one fight it normally fizzles out .

I'd just have cycled up the road then called the Police

I know it's a sad inditement of today's society but when a guy gets stabbed/killed on a London bus for asking a youth to stop throwing chips at him and others you have to be very wary.

These cases are always difficult.


My preference is usually to be very noisy and then run away!

Often attracting attention can be enough


Case in point... In Portsmouth three youths shouting and prodding an elderly guy, being really abusive.

Loud voice ... and they ran off.

However had they come my way.... I would have been out of there quicker than a greased weasel bowel movement
