Get the bike of course, that's for you. The video camera is only for the rest of us to enjoy your cycling videos, and you already do great ones with your Archos. Just don't stop alright!

Of course I won't stop! In fact I notice that the extra battery and the waterproof cover for my Flycamone2 will be out soon. I don't think they cost too much so I will be getting that soon.

I'm slightly worried that my Archos is slowly dying as it's focus isn't as good as it used to be and if one of the cables gets tugged it looses picture. I'm probably more into gadgets than bikes anyway so I'd love a POV.1. It's a heart over head thing!

By the way Mike, how is the POV.1 working out? Any new footage?

In all fairness, diagnosing a bad BB isn't always easy. Sometimes you just can't tell by just spinning the cranks on a work stand (it can take the load of a person riding it to make it click or run unsmoothly). This probably means that the bike shop would have had to have an employee riding it on the road, in the car park, etc to pick up on it. I think unless the BB is very bad and noticeable on a workstand or they have the bike owner being very clear or specifically asking for them to change the BB, they just aren't going to take the time to run about with it outside.

Best thing is to do it yourself Magnatom! Get a torque wrench, tube of anti-seize, crank puller and a BB tool as well as that new BB, it's worth it. You'll never look back.

It would seem my suspicions were correct. Cycling home tonight (mostly uphill)I was getting the same clanking from the area of the bottom bracket as I was getting before the service. This was despite me mentioning that I suspected my BB was on the way out. Just before I picked it up I phoned to check the bike was ready. I asked if the BB needed replaced but they sounded a bit surprised that I asked. I have a feeling that they never even checked it. Oh and the saddle height was completely differemt when I got it back (not a problem really, but a niggle) and a bolt was missing from one of my light brackets.

Oh well. Time to look at re-booking that maintenance course!

Damn I was hoping it was just chain wear. I'm getting a click on every right pedal stroke if going up hill. Oh well where did I put the Edinburgh Bicycle Maintenance booklet?

Well I'm rebooked on the bike course (10th October) so, as long as it lasts until then it should be fine.

Well, there's no room for a 'backie' on my SCR2 for the rest of the journey to Edinburgh if the BB dies on PFS....

Bike shops grrr (well one in particular). Bought a new set of brake pads this weekend, and when it came to undoing the clamp that grips the cable, quarter of a turn and the bolt falls out. Further inspection revels the thread inside almost completly stripped, 1 week after a free service when my brakes were adjusted.

Time for a new caliper I suppose:angry:

I'm sure it will be fine! It is clicking less and only when I put a lot of pressure on it. Anyway we will be taking it easy...... won't we......?!

Averaging between 16 and 18mph's easy enough for you, isn't it ?

Just in case anyone cares! I decided to take my bike along to another LBS to get the bottom bracket checked out. Turns out I was right and there was a fair amount of play in the BB and it needed replaced.

I am really angry with the first bike shop. I explicitly told them when I handed the bike in that I thought the BB needed replaced and could they check it. They didn't. What would have happened if that had failed during one of my commutes.

I think I am justified in naming the bike shop. It was West End Cycles. Sure the guy was nice, but the service was very poor. He had a lot of bike to service so I suspect he went for quantity and not quality.

Shame.

My experience is that changing the chain is a good idea and massively prolongs the sprocket life. It is almost certain that with a slight bit of chain stretch the sprockets will be fine.

While I had the bike at the second LBS they suggested that the chain had worn beyond the point where replacing the chain would help. Probably best just to leave it and let the cogs and chain wear together. The first LBS said nothing about this, even when asked. They just said it was fine.

Very good, unless of course your chain rings wear out too in which case say hello to a new drivetrain.

Like mine did :evil::rolleyes:
