I have a "thumb stick" somewhere with our old sheep dog carved in sheep's horn on the top of it!

I'd never use one of those aluminium NHS elbow crutches. In Accrington so many use them, they are known as 'dole poles'! :rolleyes::giggle:

Some of us rely on them but be aware there are 2 different types, there's the cheap one with a squareish plastic handle that the give out by the hundreds I think they'd give you one if you stub your toe and then there's the crutch with a round rubber handle that is far more comfortable for daily use but about twice the price and made in the UK and also rated at 25 stone max weight. These are 'ward issue' and not A&E and are only given to people who have major injuries.

When I used one I found the plastic bung /ferel on the end, that touches the floor very dodgy as they are more plastic than rubber. On a man made fiber carpet it was so slippy.🙄
