Bum. Nine days to go and I came home ill from work on Monday. Back at work today but no training. I was always going to be finishing around the back of the race but this isn't going to help. Never mind, I'll be on the starting line on the day, if a little less well prepared.

Sorry to hear this- take it easy and if you're still not well don't compete as you could really end up in a bad way.

Just don't worry about your times as they won't be what they were prior to getting ill.
I was training for the bike leg of the triathlon but couldn't compete as had swine flu and chest infection - feel your pain! Was hard going to watch my teammates and sub cyclist on the day but had to as team captain to register the new guy.

Good luck - hope you get better but listen to your body and health- there are always more times to compete

Oh bad luck!;)

Sod preparation. There's only so much you can do anyway. Just give it all you got on the day, and remember, the worse you do, the more you'll improve next time... Or something like that...

If you will go spoiling a decent bike ride by doing some jogging, then I've no sympathy.

I have really. GWS GD.

Arrrgh unlucky, but hey just look at it as a slightly premature taper phase?
Good luck on race day!

Cheers all. TTcycle, I'm guessing you felt a lot more pain with swine flu, I've only got a vomitting/stomach bug. I'll be running tomorrow to see how I get on. My mate who's doing it with me is fit as a fiddle and has been training hard. Git ;).

take it easy...honestly some people really come a cropper in a race when they're competing after just getting better from illness.

GD - honestly be careful and take it easy- if you must compete don't push too hard.

Wishing you luck and a speedy recovery so you can get on the course!

I'll definately be taking it easy. I'll try a few gentle training sessions this week to see how I feel. If I don't feel good I won't race and I'll go and support my mate instead. If I feel bad in the race on the first run I can stop easily enough. I'll have my phone on me and the bike leg goes near to my parents' house at two points and a few streets from my gran's house also so I have plenty of places where I can get a lift back if I abandon. I won't be taking any risks. After the race I'll have a nap before the three hour drive home at the end of the day ;).

You'll be all right - as darkstar says, an early taper.

Well what do you know. I'm over my vomiting bug and have had several bouts of the sh!ts this morning instead. So much for starting my multi sport career this weekend. At least I had the comedy moment of telling my wife what I'd been doing in the bathroom for ten minutes this morning. She replied "I know. I heard :biggrin:"
