Never been a fan (nor do I suffer from any other mental illness) but you have to raise a hat to a man who apparently during his recent Sheffield gig dedicated The Young Ones to 'anyone under 76'.

Musically he lost the plot somewhere in the early 60s.

I most vehemently disagree!

He never had the plot. He was always a botoxed version of Elvis, who in turn was a rip-off of the black musicians* in the Southern States.

*Not entirely Elvis's fault. The record companies were desperate to find white equivalents to black stars (Chubby Checker for Fats Domino being one of the most blatant).

You're quite correct of course but the difference is I can sort of enjoy his very early hits whereas anything after that makes me want to lob the stereo through the window and then drive over it with a steam roller.

Musically or otherwise, nearly everything anyone has ever done has been at least inspired and often partially copied from something else.

Oh yes. But the good ones add something unique of their own.

Mixed feelings on this really............
Can't stand his music in general**..........although his latest release is pleasant.
Cannot stand watching his sanctimonious face while he performs.........as it was at Cilla's funeral.
He used to make even my dance moves look OK as he did his silly routines on stage.
BUT...............
plastic surgery aside he is marvellous for his age.
must have been doing something right as his fans and his amazing income would seem to prove.
***He has made some good records over the years e.g. Wired for Sound/Devil Woman etc............although they are heavily out-balance by the amazing amount of crap he has come out with (IMO).
AND............I still remember, as a young lad, enjoying watching Summer Holiday at the pictures........does that make me sad
