I must admit, I thought I was replying to a post from the pen of @gavroche until I went back to check. Maybe they are related?

of course I could just buy a spare set of wheels - say 15mm racing wheels (that's thickness not diameter , I would have to change my peddles otherwise) and slap em on when I go on road rides. - but that £100

It keeps coming back to the same point - buy a road bike , you know you want to.
