Sky TV hikes

Once again BSkyB are raising their prices and once again I'm considering whether it's worth paying over £100 for their complete package. My problem is the time of year when we are more likely to be stuck in doors.

Has anyone negotiated better prices lately or has anyone decided enough is enough?

I have appleTV and could pay £6 per month for Netflix to take the edge off

Phone them and threaten to leave, likelihood is you'll get a discount for a period of time. Once that period is over, repeat. I think I recently saved £12 a month. I cancelled the movies which I rarely watched. I did the same with Virgin who provide my phone and broadband and got a similar discount

Or just leave

Depends if you want the sport really. And films as Netflix dont really have anything recent, they just seem to have US TV series

While will you be stuck indoors, Newcastle might be cooler and wetter than London but it's not the arctic circle

Or get a turbo and kill yourself with suffer fest etc

We cancelled our subscription last year.Saved us £67 a month as it was then.Don't miss it one bit,all we have now is Freeview HD with a Chromecast in the back of the telly for the odd bit of sport which we can stream from the laptop if we want.

I was thinking of streaming some tv and I can use AirPlay to beam it onto the tv

Can't get it as we have a whole raft of oak trees in the line of sight of the satellite.

Freeview + BT Sport Euro Footy package and the odd (tut tut) illegal stream for football sees us ok.

Sky is massively overpriced imo.

£100 a month, how much tv do you watch?

I don't watch much but the kids watch quite a bit. It's the sky plus we'd miss.

Something I'm considering is a combo of Amazon prime and Netflix which would work out at around £190 for the year And would cater for 4 mobile devices. Would just have to work out the best broadband deal as we don't get virgin in my village

PVR to replace Sky+

I guess it all depends if you can afford the cost, you can always reduce costs with sky, talk to retentions. You can lose HD, lose multiroom, lose movies, lose sport. Depends what you and the kids watch

Selling the kids would save you some money, might even end up with a few extra quid once the subs are paid

That's what stopped me from ditching it for a while but I took the leap 2 years ago and got a Youview hard drive recorder instead. It's great and I don't miss Sky+, and I love having an extra ££35 per month in my pocket

I left Sky about 14 months ago and they constantly bombarded me with offers. Eventually one offer caught my eye and the football season was starting. They were offering a 66% discount and £100 cash back, but when I called about the offer it had ended the day before! After voicing my disappointment I was offered the full Sky package including Sports and Movie HD for £25 a month on a 12 month deal which I took but will cancel in month 11.

It's about having the balls to hold out for a deal.

Why not use your Sky dish with a Freesat PVR? I bought a Humax HDR 1010s for £200 and it is great. The replacement model, the HDR 1100s is now available for £189 or less.

Unless you are a real TV addict, you should be able to find enough decent programmes to watch without paying subs.
