Damp wood is slippery for reasons other than algea and moss too. It retains water and when you walk on it, some of the water is squeezed out and rises to the surface between shoe and wood and perfectly lubricates the two. The safest solution is an abrasive surface. Chicken wire works very well and one layer is enough, I think. You can also purchase abrasive strips that fit into the slots. One strip per plank is enough. I have experimented with sand in varnish and although it works, it doesn't last long.
