Dunno if anyone else as mentioned it but if you enjoy watching birds in the garden you can record the details at Garden BirdWatch You record weekly counts - either on paper or online - and the data gets used for research. Studies like this help show trends in declines or increases in bird species.

I do it every year. Wonder what they think when they read my results since it also includes pheasants

The two meows we live with leave no chance of a bird entering our garden. Fatty would sit on and suffocate any feather friend and Ginger has the reactions of a Ninja. The elderly chap two doors down (owner of 6 cats) has a multitude of bird ornaments and feeders and frequently thows out foody bits on the top of his garage for them. He's either rather naive to the bloodbath potential or a tad sadistic:huh:

However, it's quite sweet to see fatty rolling around in abject joy on the garage roof having scoffed all his foody bits though:dance:

There's a kingfisher near us. Nothing remarkable in that other than it habits a stretch of Dollis Brook which is one of the most polluted stretches of water in North London.
We get kingfishers in the river Ravensbourne and when the tide's out, they'll even come down to the mouth of Deptford Creek. They really make my day when I see one down in the Smoke.

Watching a Heron fly low and slow over a field on the way in to work this afternoon.
Plenty of herons around here (and I still get excited each and every time I see one) but I have never seen a kingfisher in real life. Came very close a couple of years ago when I was cycling with a friend. I stopped to take a photo and she cycled ahead to the bridge. By the time I caught up, she had a big smile on her face but it had vanished.

I fitted a tit-cam last month.

Alright, calm down, calm down....

We love springwatch and the like and we have had blue tits in one of our birdboxes for the past 2 years, so decided to buy a miniature wireless camera and fitted it. Gives a lovely clear focused picture and now we just wait to see if they come back again this year and let the little lad watch them with us...

I think it was about £60 from memory, needs a power line running to the camera but then the signal is transferred to a dedicated receiver by the TV.

Miss Goodbody up the road tells me she has bought a rabbit, saying it's small and will give her lots of pleasure. I offered to get some hay for it, but she said it won't need it? *confused*

I've seen a kingfisher in the distance a couple of times and loved watching them, but the best time was when we went to a talk at a nature reserve whilst camping. He told us he had a special surprise when the last bag was handed to him (the talk was about ringing birds and showing us a few of the birds they caught that morning so random), and out of his bag he pulled a kingfisher, it was beautiful for the short time he held it before releasing it:
