Tyne and Wear is the name of a county (i.e. a government administrative area) - I think you have counties within states?

The Wear is another river. So that particular county is named after two of the rivers that flow through it.

My address, for example, ends in Wotton-under-Edge [the name of the nearest town], South Gloucestershire [the county]
(then the post code, which you call a zip code, I think)
LOL Tyne and Wear is the name of a county..... didn't realize you had counties, I guess I thought they were called something else. What a funny name. The counties here have such boring names. I'm in Oconee county which is ok (an Indian word) but to the south the county is Anderson, the last name of the old white guy who founded the city by the same name.
Whatcom county at Bellingham, Washington, named after the lake there (I believe that is another Indian word), Bellingham after the founder of the town, which sounds very British. Franklin County at Columbus, Ohio I think this Franklin was the inventor/President/philosopher but it could have been someone else. Columbus after Good ole Chris whom people seemed to have found America first even though he didn't, he just happed to be the one to bring settlers. Clark county Las Vegas Nevada named after the guy who decided a desert would be a great place to build a town. Etc. Etc....... BORING

Vinegar on our chips(fries), Pickled eggs, Mushy peas, Curry sauce (in Scotland, deep fried battered mars bars lol )

We have a lot of history here... so much so we really do take it for granted.

London....for all said and done, a fantastic destination with so much to see. You could book a month there and still miss half of it....that said, half of the royals and loads of Celebs have debunked and are living in my county on the border of England and Wales('Gloucestershire', not to be confused with 'South Gloucestershire').
If you like History, you will not be disappointed with this place...even if you are disappointed with the food ;)

Well many of our counties are actually named after towns - Yorkshire (York), Lancashire (Lancaster) etc,. And Gloucestershire is pronounced Gloss-ster-sher...

Bellingham is also a place (it is a small town in Northumberland). It wouldn't surpise me if it was somebody's surname as well.

You obviously didn't have a banana milk shake at Wendys. After a long hot cycle, they are hard to beat!

To add to your list: Taco Bells - not bad but small portions by American standards. Dennys (not sure if that counts as fast food) do fantastic breakfasts. Agreed re the difference between McD's UK and USA.. As per usual with the UK, we take a good American idea and make a complete hash of it.

Ewwwwwwwwww! Banana flavored anything.
taco bell (AKA toxic hell) has small portions so that you can order double.
Denny's, waffle house, IHOP all considered diners not FF.
McD's a good idea? A very bad idea like credit cards and All You Can Eat Buffet restaurants. It just compounds the American ideal of "I want it ALL and I want it NOW"
you walk around stores like Walmart and you see an 8 year old obese kid screaming his head off because mom said no to the donuts, so either one of three things happens. She gives in immediatley so he shuts up, screams back at him to "shut up or I'll whoop your a$$", or she bribes him saying we have cookies and ice cream at home.

Same here in Tesco or any other big supermarket...in fact it's a similar story here with grown men under the thumb of what they endearingly term 'SWMBO' in the local bike shops.

OK, been to one Denny's when we took the children to the west side of Florida, south of Tallahassee?? It was a bit of a like going back to 'Happy Days'... maple syrup on bacon and fried eggs?... asked for grits to see what came back, couldn't believe the gritty, grey 'mash potato'-like stuff that appeared: can anyone eat it?
But then again, who eats chips with gravy on? Yuk.

Oo I grew up on pickled beets and eggs. Allergic to eggs now and I'm sure the vinegar would give me heartburn.
speaking of food I'm starving it's just after 10 am and I haven't had breakfast yet. And this is a dilemma. My refrigerator broke last week so I don't have much here and I'm on a extremely tight buget.

Southerners seem to love the crap, seeing as how I hate anything mushy I won't touch it.
