There is a lad we know who has gone to job interviews in trackie bottoms and a vest, he has not been lucky enough to get a job for many years now.

When I was in Aussie I went to an interview on the way to the beach, I wore vest, short shorts and thongs (flip flops) the position was for a Blacksmith, qualification speak louder than words clothes.
The Manager did remind me to wear suitable clothes next Monday morning.

But with no qualifications?

a disturbing lack of cravat wearing.
Not a combination of words that one expects to see often.

My wife used to do the hiring for a cinema complex, unskilled work but popular with students. Whenever a job was advertised she'd get a load of applicants sent from the Jobcentre who clearly had no interest in the job, if they turned up at all. Track suits, baseball caps, jeans, unkempt and unshaven. As for the boys...

I love my brown brogues and blue suit..

However i wore black shoes black trousers with a nice shirt and tie for my successful interview....
I hate to break it to you in public and all.

However, you (nor anyone for that matter) has ever worn brogues.

You may have worn oxfords with brogue detailing.

Just keepin it real!

I was sat In a cafe Nero a week or so ago with a young to middle aged chap sporting a three piece suit complete with a bowler hat.

In cafe Nero!!!

Son#2 may well be heading in that direction. At the grand old age of 16 he is insisting on wearing French cuffs and cufflinks for 6th form and has bought himself a pair of black Loakes loafers for school too (already owning a pair of Oxfords)

He presents a fine critique of my suits too, I suspect the bowler hat is only a matter of time

FWIW...black shoes only with business suits. I see plenty of young bucks in the city with light blue suits and tan shoes but they are ill informed nobbers. Ties are tricky. Years ago everyone wore one. Then it went to only wearing a tie if meeting a client (ie me). Now I have plenty of meetings in the city and am met by, quelle horreur, a tieless halfwit
