I wear brown toetectors in the factory because they don't do a black option in my size in the safety supplier's catalogue.
Anyway the colour isn't important because they'll soon get scuffed, covered in oil and paint and generally look very dog eared after a few weeks anyway.

They do however match my works trousers with knee pads and a gazillion pockets and my non company issue ripped Metallica t-shirt.

^_^
You see, that was all going fine, right up untill you mentioned the ripped Metallica shirt.

One does not rip ones Metallica shirt, one shreds.

Please do try harder in future.

I see plenty of young bucks in the city with light blue suits and tan shoes but they are ill informed nobbers

For that, read "they are all a lot younger than me"

Couldn't agree more...its a fad, a vogue...never dress to vogue, dress to style

Son#2 may well be heading in that direction. At the grand old age of 16 he is insisting on wearing French cuffs and cufflinks for 6th form and has bought himself a pair of black Loakes loafers for school too (already owning a pair of Oxfords)

He presents a fine critique of my suits too, I suspect the bowler hat is only a matter of time

FWIW...black shoes only with business suits. I see plenty of young bucks in the city with light blue suits and tan shoes but they are ill informed nobbers. Ties are tricky. Years ago everyone wore one. Then it went to only wearing a tie if meeting a client (ie me). Now I have plenty of meetings in the city and am met by, quelle horreur, a tieless halfwit
Like it! My son#2 dresses like that too!

I'm imagining a sixth form common room very different to mine.

Is there an open fireplace and high backed leather chairs?

IF one is going to wear a tie, then it would be nice to see a full Windsor, and that the knot appears not to have had an argument with the collar. Ties at half mast, nasty. Just take the damm thing off.

And brown shoes for the country
