So how are we all finding motorcycles in bus lanes

And Motorcycle News will probably be doing their bit to get back at LCC. It great to see how you can get grown ups to act like tittle tattle kids.

And right in the middle of a credit crunch:laugh:

In shared pedestrian/cycle lanes pedestrians complain about cyclists - out in the country ramblers complain about cyclists (motorised or not). Give any group of folk usage of anything and they form a pressure group to gain sole usage.

Give me the Judean Peoples Front anyday or is that .....................;)

Pah - those splitters

I do know what you mean, though. People do seem to get very territorial, don't they?

However my take on this specific issue is not about who I share which bit of the road with. It's more to do with the fact that it is the wrong answer to the problem of road safety. Rather than introducing schemes that might make one group of road users safer (leaving aside the impact it may have on others) I would prefer to see measures that made all road users safer - traffic policing being given a greater priority, more 20mph (and less) zones, for instance. Which is why I also not keen on Johnson's other idea of allowing cyclists to turn left on red. Gimmicky measures like these might be popular but they won't in the long run make the roads any safer.

Have not been commuting by bike since m/bikes have been allowed in bus lanes. However on looking at the TfL e-mail sent to me today and the routes involved I notice that the A13 is a red-route right out to the M25; this is one of my primary routes home when I do go all the way (so to speak). However it is not a red route but a 'red route managed by the DBFO team'. What is this and what consequence does it have (if any)?

I'd go along with that.

as expected, generally ok but one more thing to be aware of and worry about, and some people on scooters are idiots, I've been passed on the inside at speed and had them pass and croos my path from either side, usually when they're bombing to get through a gap or beat lights, I've had them stop either side of me in the ASL and I saw two pass a cyclist on either side at speed last night, didn't look like fun

But the A13 has a very good cycle lane at least as far as Lodge Avenue. Don't you use that ?

Chris,

It means that it's not managed and maintained by TfL but the Highways Agency as part of the UK strategic road network. Can't remember what the acronym is though.

My trips last year were few down the A13, I tended to go via Ilford and through Barking, Hornchurch, Upminster, etc. I want to pick them up again on the A13 this year now I have a full sized folder so I will look into this - didn't you say that for outbound traffic (out of London) the cycle lane is on the RHS, i.e. against the incoming flow of traffic? I have no idea where Lodge Avenue is so if you have a few more details it would be appreciated. Ta.

I've not noticed a difference, but that's mainly because I can't remember a time when the Bus Lanes on my route weren't being used by m/bikes and mopeds....;)

Heading east Lodge Lane is the roundabout after the fire station (the rab with the strange blue lights on it). If you head out of London on the left (North) you will have to cross the A13 by footbridge to get past the A406. The only problem with the cycle path along there is the incredibly long waits at all the junctions (unless you jump the toocan lights, which I do eventually 'cause I get bored).
I might try this from Becontree to Upminster soon.

The long haul from Roneo Corner kills me some times. I am not sure if the bridle path from Rainham Road to Upper Rainham Road will be suitable for anything other than a MTB. When I have done it next, I will post a vid on youtube for some advice.

That path is fine .Its tarmac up to the stables then quite a short path to the cemetry and back on to road.

I have done it once, but I am thinking about getting a road bike in the spring, so wondered if it would be too bumpy for that.

So far I have found that the majority of ptws are choosing not to use the bus lanes on my route.

Haven't really notices that much of an increase, tbh. As a motorcyclist, I think it's a bad idea for us to use bus lanes - I can foresee a few left turn/SMIDSY accidents. Besides you don't save that much time by using them, a couple of seconds maybe.
