You all seem to have forgotten that until about 20 years ago harrassment in the office was viewed as acceptable "hanky panky" and bottom pinching or a boob squeeze was an occupational hazard for many women (and the occasional man). I've no doubt that things sometimes went further than that if there was an alpha male in a position of influence over a woman's career or salary. Only recently my cycling pals and I witnessed a very young woman arriving at a remote car park in the Pennines, climbing out of a big executive saloon driven by a corpulent middle-aged man and blushing heavily to the accompaniment of cheers from my less, er, discreet fellow cyclists, getting into a scruffy little economy hatchback parked there and driving off. At about the same time I cycled past a driving school car parked in a side street and realised that the mddle aged instructor had his hand up the skirt of the young woman pupil beside him. It used to happen a lot and I'm certain that it still does. My guess is that the current crop of complaints is coming from women who have suffered harrassment in the past and now, encouraged by the prevailing mood of non-acceptance of that behaviour, have decided to give the old barstewards their come-uppance. How many of them will be prepared to stand up in court and have their day remains to be seen.

Or maybe, the VICTIMS feel they can now come forward and be believed? Whether they were victims this morning or 40 years ago, they were victims, and as such the perpetrators need to be brought to justice.

I'm not entirely sure that much progress has been made on the sexual harassment at work front. Miss slowmotion has recently taken a temporary job as a waitress at posh functions. Very rich people in swanky venues. She had her training day last week, and I was curious about it. I asked her what they told you to do when a punter pinched her bum or "more".....was she allowed to slap his face or throw a glass of Krug at it? It was completely forbidden because it would damage "the reputation" of the hospitality company that employs her.

Lol. Are you for real? Yes progress - its definitely the correct way to escalate a sexual harassment case and hopefully it will be investigated correctly. A reaction like the one you are hoping your partner would do would be the opposite of progress and would be primeval. Just because someone has sexually harassed you, it does not then give you the right to then break the law and assault the perpetrator. :confused:

True, but the trouble is, I suspect, that having reported it (does she have time to do it there and then, or will it get left to the end of a shift), what's the comeback on the perpertrator? He's probably long gone, anonymous, and thinking he's got away with it. It's not quite the same as an action by a colleague seen on a regular basis.

I think I'd be tempted to whisper something extremely rude and slightly threatening to the perpertrator, just to let them know it wasn't acceptable, and then move on. If he wants to complain, he's got to explain what prompted it. (This is purely my idea of good revenge by the way, not advice!)
