We need to keep hold of Jersey, think of the butter - I'd be prepared to chuck in Cramlington to clinch the deal.
Don't forget Ashington.....

or Blyth for that matter.

No. They are independent self-governing countries ('British Overseas Territories'), who are under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom, but they are neither part of the UK nor are they part of the British Isles.

The Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not British Overseas Territories - they are Crown Dependencies. They are not part of the United Kingdom but they are considered part of the British Isles.

Hope this clarifies things!;)

Excellent. I thought it seemed a bit odd. Now, who's going to tell NASA?

I mean, if they brought a spacecraft down just off Ascension, and expected to set sail from Portsmouth to pick the astronauts up, they'd have a long trip....

I think we should all join together in one big political entity called the Western Isles Alliance, invade Europe, and subject them all to cr@ppy food and sh!te weather.

Mate of mine got a lift after spending a couple of months on a kibbutz. "So," says the driver, on discovering he's picked up a Brit, "how's the war going?" "WAR?" said my friend, "What war?" "Oh, you're at war, hadn't you heard?" "No," said my mate. "Who with, for Chrissakes?" "Argentina." "Argentina?" "Yes - they invaded the Falklands." My mate said that really did his head in. He wasn't sure, but he thought the Falklands were round the Orkneys or somewhere. What the bloody hell were Argentina doing up there?

.... and now lets discuss the situation on the island of Sark, part of the British isles it may be, but it's not part of the UK
