400bhp

Guru
I thought I'd share, what I see, as a really positive response to an email I sent to a local coach company this morning, after being close passed by a rather large coach - I say close, perhaps 1m width at the front of the coach to 0.5m by the time his back end was passing me. I emailed the company and got the following response:

Dear Mr xxx

Thank you for your comments earlier today. We have looked at the CCTV footage from the vehicle. I would agree that the vehicle was very close and the driver should have given a wider berth.

The driver in question will be brought in for interview later today and shown the footage.

We continuously monitor all the drivers through the telematics and CCTV systems as part on ongoing driver training and I can assure you we take your comments seriously and view all feedback be it good or bad as constructive.

Many thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Regards

I couldn't ask for more. In my view, the outcome is spot on. More awareness and further training. I wasn't after heads to roll:smile:

Sorry, it sounds like a 'stock reply' to me as well. Maybe I'm just a bit cynical but I've come across this type of bull before (actually to my shame I have been partly responsible for some of it many years ago in a 'customer relations' capacity at a garage I once worked at)

I agree, it could be a stock reply. Assuming that the coach was driven more than a few miles that particular day, did they really spend hours looking for the 10-20 seconds of relevant footage? And what if the coach passed more than one bicycle that day? Maybe @400bhp supplied a precise time or location that enabled them to narrow the search, but that isn't obvious from the OP.

Apart from the bog standard reply,400bhp might've thought his luck was up. I've had that experience of a big wagon(in this case)passing me with less than a yard, only for the back end to pass even closer.

I would be pretty happy with that reply. The management of the Welsh coach company that instinctively made me move my right shoulder into my body on Kensington High Street were less helpful when I wrote to them. It probably had something to do with my incontinent gynecological rant at the driver in front of some shocked passengers on the way back home after a jolly in London. I'm afraid that my "Red Mist" performance continued at the next three sets of red traffic lights that we shared.

Only this very day as is I've sent a Howler (just a Howler, not actually written in Snarglepod venom) to National Grid after one of their twats drivers cut me up at a pinch point. We'll see what response I get. Ironically it had one of those buck passing "cyclists stay back" stickers on the back. If only they paid some attention to their own bloody driving.

I complained to a Manchester coach company (whose last name rhymes with faster) a few years ago and got an almost identical response to the OP. A few weeks later the same coach passed me really wide in the same place and when I caught it at the lights the driver apologised for his previous pass, so the thread title is spot on.

looks like a standard cut and paste reply to me. All your feedback good or bad is a cover all

I'm really not sure what more the Coach company should have done. They reply promptly. They reply agreeing that the driver was in the wrong. They reply saying they are taking steps to improve

Perhaps you could suggest what the company should have done instead of the response they made?
