Long story but my partner bought a bike for our eldest son (nearly 7) off of the internal market place thingy they have at her work. It's an military themed apollo bmx type thing which weighs a tonne and he doesn't like it much. She got it for 20 quid. Now I have just bought him a Pinnacle ash off fleabay for 30. But my partner is insisting that I get rid of the bike she bought AND my trekking style BSO (a reflex downtown no less) that I use to get to the pub or station rather than taking my road bike. I'd like some advice on persuasion techniques for getting her to understand why I neeeeeed to have two bikes. Or where else do I go from here...

Tell her the bmx can go but if you got rid of your pub bike then it would need another two bikes to replace it! Also, tell her to leave the bike buying to you in future and while we are at it point out that cycling and cyclists are hot at the moment and she could quickly find herself being the ex Mrs Stalagmike if she carries on as there are plenty of attractive women out there that would love to be your women!

Sorted, no need to thank me :okay:

Part of me thinks this is an opportunity to get a better pub bike by selling/giving away the current one and slowly wearing her down over the next six months about needing an alternative to the road one. Play the long game...

I've divorced women for less than that.

Everything you say makes sense.
Who, me?
Play the long game...
Play the long game and the short game, keep the pub bike but start softening her up for the new one as well......
just tell shmbo the truth bikes to men are like shoes and handbags to girls.
Don't be ridiculous, it is far more serious than that!
What is her reason for wanting you to get rid of the bikes?
Invalid.....

Yes dear, you just keep telling yourself it was you that divorced them if it makes you feel better
