/Get/ followed the same pattern as /forget/ still does. As such, using /got/ when the equivalent forget tense would be /forgotten/ means that /got/ is the anomaly. It's just that we've gotten used to it.What about people who write "gotten"? It's longer than "got" so as stupid Americanisms go, it's up there with the best.
