For purely daylight hours use I'd agree with you, but if a bike is ridden in the dark there is clearly a safety benefit to making yourself as visible as possible.

First thing that comes off a bike be it new or used bike. If the mech is set up correctly you shouldn't need one

That's as maybe @Blue Hills I'm sure it helps in such instances but I can't see many rushing to fit a 'dork disc' especially as it means removing the cassette.

That phrase is patronising, typically used by the same sort of people who see themselves higher up the cycling hierarchy, and who would also use phrases such as BSO and 'plastic lid'.

Well being even older than merely elderly I've never tried to put a carbon bike in the oven either. They would explode wouldn't they?
