The seniors golf was on this weekend. So, not the open etc, just the seniors. The winner got over £425K.
Luke Littler just won the world's darts and ONLY won £125K.
The French footballer (is it Barcola) is apparently after £500K per week AFTER tax.
So.......
Not only crazy but imo there is no rhyme or reason to it.

Well, Aonishiki, the winner of the Nagoya basho (sumo) won a whole cow's worth of beef, a tonne of rice, a year's supply of noodles, a year's supply of beer, a year's supply of macarons and I'm not quite sure how many eggs. Plus I think about £50,000. Forty of that for winning the top division yusho, and ten for winning the technique prize.

I won £3, for 1st handicap in the Saxon RC 50, in 1967.

And I think I had to provide receipts to the value of £3, to claim the prize. It was strictly amateur stuff in those days.

A friendly shop would sometimes give you cash and a bogus receipt for some kit. But if you were caught you were declared a professional and that was the end of your career, unless you were actually good enough to turn pro.

According to himself, Chris Woods who was England's second choice goalkeeper at the 1990 World Cup finals in Italy received £1,000 for his only appearance, when he played in the third place play off final. He added that he only got win bonuses and expenses for sitting on the bench during the previous games. How much would England's second choice keepers receive these days I wonder?🤔

Not crazy at all. They earn the money by generating the funds for their employers.
