Of course it's a sport. the gambling aspect may be a rather large by product, but the main focus of any racehorse owner, trainer and jockey is to win the derby, national, gold cup etc.

Tough is relative; a jockey doesn't take the physical punishment that other sports mete out as 'par for the course'. (And I know they fall off the things that are racing from time to time...but that isn't the norm)

Good thread, this is essentially a winter sport but in the summer this is typical of the racing / training that goes on, and I would like to nominate Therese Johaug from Norway who quite simply must be one of the best female athletes in the world, over 50km or longer she is the best cross country skier in the world. Plenty to Google on this lady, meanwhile have a watch of this
