Star-Trek 'Gadgets'

Discussion in 'CycleChat Cafe' started by Richard A Thackeray, 12 Jul 2019.

  1. We're probably all familiar with the flip-open phones that look like Star-Trek communicators (original series), & the 'tablet's that looked like iPads in 'The Next Generation'

    Now, it seems that the Universal Translator is on the way too, I keep getting this appearing on YouTube, prior to clips
    Granted it's not an instantaneous translation, but that's not going to take long surely?

    And, there was a competition in the States (onging?) to develop/produce a working prototype of a Medical Tricorder

    We were promised doors that go "whoosh" and free unlimited power supply.

    I wouldn't be surprised if most gadgets in Star Trek become reality.

    Has anybody successfully played a game of tri-dimensional chess? I couldn't get my head round the rules :wacko:

  9. Quantum physics did promise that, supposedly?
    In his excellent book 'The Hunt For Zero Point', Nick Cook writes that he was told by an interviewee, that enough (quantum) energy exists in a cup of coffee to destroy the Earth. or conversely not enough to boil the water to make
    Decisions, decisions...…………….

    Wasn't it postulated that, if transportation was viable, that the information required to reassemble a human, would take a stack of CD-ROMs, over a mile high
    Probably, just one of those "We Haven't Got A Clue!!" quotes

    Holo-suites = VR headsets???

    And;
    It did set in motion some very big sociological changes, such as Nichell Nicols & her influences, to the youth of America, with some very influential fans....

    In all fairness, most chess games played across a real board are 3 dimensional.

    It goes back further than Star Trek. Samsung won a patent case against Apple by arguing that the Tablet form was first shown in 2001 space oddesey.
