Ok go with me here ....... Anyone used a steam cleaner on their bike? I have black and yellow tyres and was wondering if I could bring them back to their best with steam, or would it just perish the tyre ...... Mmmm anyone know ?? Go Maisie x

Well apart from the risk of the tyre exploding on the rim (should you do this with tyres still on) and maybe causing damage to the rim or maybe yourself, I'd say a big No No in my book. The heat may also cause the delamination of tyre bonding process thus rendering it useless or dangerous.

Nothing wrong with a good old soapy sponge and some elbow grease
If it is one of those modern day domestic ones for using round the kitchen then maybe but I bet its not as good as some vim and a scrubbing brush. If it is a proper industrial one then no, we used to have one for cleaning the underside of the trucks, used to do more damage than good, in fact they are a big NO NO on modern vehicles as the steam gets inside all of the electronics. They are good at cleaning stuff though, even if it is useless after you have finished cleaning it will be very clean.

I have never heard of the heat damaging tyres before, it will only be 100°c, but then bike tyres could well be very different from truck tyres, I wouldn't like to ride the bike after it was done.
Was just a wee domestic hand held steamer... But taking it as a no :shy:

GT85 will bring those tyres back to gleaming cleanliness. As above - probably safer than steam and the heat associated with it too.

Where do I get this? And will it take oil off the rubber or is it a type of oil?
