can anyone recommend a good steel frame or complete bike for touring road use only from mainstream manufacturers must have clearance for 35 mm tyres and mudguards pannier rack mounts front and rear and drop bars andbar end levers 9 or 10 speed either compact double or low triple please

There are just so many options out there for steel tourers it almost comes down to the colour or usefully warranty but you'll be better off financially buying off the shelf plus you can take advantage of any discounts or clear outs.

very nice bikes when I was a lot younger I always drooled over the 753frames I lived in Leicestershire then local bike shops websters julies cycles Mottram etc

If you're 50 or 54cm flavour, Biketart has a cracking touring frame for relatively silly cheapness given the tubing. Iirc someone on here has built one, haven't they?
