OK, I dislike this junction. Two lanes efeectively become 3 narrow lanes, a useless stubblie feeder (circa 80cm wide by 4m long) leads into an ASL, a central barrier appears, the light and sight lines are poor due to the train bridge, cross-traffic regularly violates red lights, and lots of pedestrians enforce their right of way...
FWIW, I take the centre of the nearside lane. This does not eliminate close overtakes, but it helps. I don't usually bother with the ASL as the gaps between the queuing traffic are v narrow and the stubbie is partially blocked.
