Pretty wild in NE England, snow higher up than us and rained hard for a while. Thankfully we suffered no damage.
So it would seemYou forget that the world revolves around Accy Cyclist...
Never Strava'd it? Then it never happenedGot as far as Harlow. So rode from Harlow to Leytonstone. 2hrs along canals and rivers . Well chuffed with myself. And annoyed as forgot to strava it .
Tell that to the family of the lady who died in Wolverhampton and the other people injured around the country
Maybe some people have lives to lead, jobs to do, people to care for etc, A hospital, care home worker etc wouldn't be able to sit at home until the storm subsided when they have a job to go to.Yes but accidents like that happen everyday. She was hit by a flying object the size of a small table i believe. Ok the object was projected through the air by the wind, but people are hit by things falling from buildings or off wagons etc. No disrespect to the woman who died, but would you sit outside with high buildings around you while 60-70mph winds are happening? I know i wouldn't. I stayed inside yesterday until the "storm" subsided. We've got to a point now where these "storms" are talked about days before they happen, putting the fear of god into people. It's not like when we see towns and cities in America being evacuated, with those choosing to stay behind boarding up shops and houses. Once of a day it was a case of "get your brollies out for this coming Wednesday,as there's some tricky weather on its way". Now it's "BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES AND BE PREPARED TO MEET YOUR MAKER,AS STORM(whatever stupid name they choose)IS ON ITS WAY"!!!!!![]()

however, yesterday's storm was pretty extreme for the UK with 100mph winds as the damage and human impact shows
Who's 'they'?They might've had 100 mph winds in the north of Scotland or Northern Ireland but around here it was 50 mph at best. Yet they gave the impression that we were going to get 70-90 mph winds. That's why i say they were bigging it up.
It was complete gridlock around Temple Gate at 6pm last night. Fine on the bike though...It was hard cycling at times and the complete opposite feeling when being pushed up hill. On my way home through the centre it was grid locked, turned out that that one major road had been closed by falling debris leading to melt down. I ended up taking lots of zig zag routes to try to avoid to chaos.
