In which case just text a grid reference. No problems with spelling and pretty obvious if wrong straight away.

I wonder if they're trying to say no way in?

Way back in the late 1970's I was serving on a trials team and temporarily stationed at Aberport in west Wales. During the time I was there it was my wedding anniversary and my wife arrived so that we could go out for a meal to celebrate. We decided to eat at a local pub (good food and good beer) and when we arrived the conversation in the room just stopped until we had sat down and started viewing the menu. From that point on everyone in the pub spoke Welsh exclusively and during the meal I sensed that my wife was a little distracted by a couple on a nearby table. At the end of our meal we paid and made to leave, at which point my wife turned to the woman on the table and spoke to her in perfect Welsh saying (something to the effect of) if you're going to slag off the English make sure the bu99erz can't understand you first![]()
SWMBO had lived with an aunt for a few years and went to school in Caernarfon where they spoke Welsh exclusively. She used to curse me in Welsh too so I wouldn't know what she'd said/called me![]()

I could be wrong (won't be the first time) and I'm sure someone with better knowledge will correct me if I am but I'm sure that one of our local IAM examiners (a serving police ARV driver) told a group of us that without the larger gateway signs they can't enforce the speed limit.Bit like when the A61 north of Ripley North Yorkshire was reduced to 50 they simply removed the national speed limit sign and put up a few scattered small 50s along the road.

Another sneaky examiner. I think they're bred speciallyWhen I was doing my IAM test teh instructor warned me of a little test one of the examiners had
WHen you got to a long straight road in one part of the Wirral you went from a 30 mph to 50mph
BUT
one of the signs showing it had been turned round so you could only see the back
just after you passed it the examiner would ask you what the speed limit is
I have no idea what the legal situation for something like that is
is the one of the signs is invisible - can you speed up - or could a Police Officer give you a ticket for doing 50???

I believe the speed limit would still be 50mph because the offence would be ignoring whatever Traffic Regulation Order set the speed limit and requires the sign, so you should not be penalised for driving up to the official speed rather than the signed one, but it's probably simplest to wait for the first repeater sign before accelerating and avoid having to waste your time fighting any penalty issued - or risking offending if they did ever really reduce it to a 30mph limit!WHen you got to a long straight road in one part of the Wirral you went from a 30 mph to 50mph
