Was watching the SBS coverage today and noticed it was Brian Smith and Declan Quigley.

Were they the same commentators on TNT, or have SBS secured their services due to the uptick in viewers who may or may not be in Australia?

It was Jose Bean and Jon Mould on TNT 1.
Streaming feeds were Quiggers and Smith.
I watched all 3 races on YouTube today.

I must try SBS as I have a vpn. How do you get around registering though?

Don’t know the answer to this, but is there any advantage to a broadcaster getting vpn viewers? Increased viewing figures=increased advertiser rates?

It is a while since I used it but it was fairly straightforward.
VPN > Website > Create a Log-In > Search SBS for the race > Go. (IIRC)

SBS wont be employing their own commentators for such a race- they just took the RCS English Commentators. Ned Boulting usually does the RCS races in English but doesnt like the UAE Govt.

I think you need to have a read through Martin Lewis's website if it costs you £30 to reach your doorstep

I said "literally" we rode to the stage 1 start and back to the finish which was nearer to home,but about 70miles total round trip, shorter than the route they took for the race but you could jump between spots and catch them at lots of different parts as they criss crossed the region, the takeaway fish & chips we had at Southwold was £10 alone each, £2 for a can of coke, but we had various coffee/cakes/drinks/eats some of which we bought on the way, some of which we bought in advance and took with us, as well during the day to keep us fuelled up.8hrs out on the road for a day out like that, thats a very easy £30 spend.

A fair few here, without a license, either heed to change their habits or buy a license.
With much being US owned, it is a very good time to take a live sport subscription break.

Basically anything live or on the iPlayer.
This is not new information. Well, not to me anyway.

I possibly used to assume you could have a £20 a year sports subscription like Eurosport without one.
And maybe the BBC wording changed since back then.

There is now so much sport on TV license covered streaming I am certainly not missing my subscriptions.

It isn't the BBC wording, it is the legislation.

And the only change to when you require a licence since 2003 is that you now need one to watch any iPLayer.

You have needed one to watch any live broadcast, including streaming, since then.

There is now so much sport on TV license covered streaming I am certainly not missing my subscriptions.

but hey there must be something in it as the Tour of Britain has always estimated the amount spectators spend to attend the races in person as an economic boost factor to encouraging councils to host the event, and specifically mentions "spending significantly on food and drink". the only "free" bit, if the Tour passes nearby where you live, is you dont have additional accomodation costs.

All that happens with other sports too, but at most of them, you pay an entry charge. If you don't like that, you can watch on TV cheaper. Cycling is now in the bizarre situation where watching on TV is more expensive than live, unless you buy into the VIP enclosure.

I watched some of the UAE Tour and Andalucia at the weekend on TNT, after not watching anything since last year. Looking forward to the cobbles opening weekend coverage now

I 'somehow' have TNT bundled with my BT broadband - it's an old contract and I don't pay extra, but you could argue I do as BT are not cheap.

Be interesting how this works when it goes over to HBO Max in March. discovery still stays, but HBO for the TNT sport. I'm assuming most other HBO stuff won't be available (e.g. box sets).
