Ooh, that's a good one, as if those two short words negate any further conversation, or render the speaker to be inviobly (new word (c) Drago enterprises 2021) correct.

We done to @JoeyB cos I hate "reach out". No no no! We speak to, telephone, write to, email, but only reach out to render assistance when they are drowning.

" We got a result " by particularly footballers. Of course they got a result. Every match gets a result.

It is genuinely respectful unlike "with respect" which is anything but
The idea is that you have respect for the person, but perhaps not for the thing/concept/view which you are about to criticise.

(again, doesn't seem very complicated to me ... )

Nope. The first is simply police officer. There is no such thing as a serving officer, its not a term the police ever use. You can be a civilian, a retired copper, ex copper, even just a copper, but there is no such thing as a serving officer - they are simply an officer. Its a ridiculous, meaningless phrase invented by the media.

As a member of the public I think the term serving officer adds some clarity to a media report. Not just the way @T4tomo put it but also if dealing with the account of a former, retired or suspended officer.

The various former officers who've been putting their two pennyworth post Couzens might describe things they or others did while serving officers.
